Introducing the 2022 Chevy Equinox: Powertrain Highlights

There’s a lot to love about the Equinox, and it all starts under the hood with its impressive powertrain. Its Turbo 1.5L 4-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission for smooth driving.

To stay in control even in rough weather, rely on the standard Stabilitrak® electronic stability control. This system automatically adjusts brake and engine torque to help you stay on your intended path. The Equinox comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD), but all-wheel drive (AWD) is available, too.

All Equinox models come standard with Auto Stop/Start. When your foot is on the brake at a red light, the engine will automatically stop the engine to save you fuel. When you press the gas pedal to get going again, the engine instantly comes back to life.

Idling is one of the most common ways that drivers lose fuel efficiency, so with this technology in place, this Chevy gets an EPA-estimated 26 city/31 highway MPG.

Safety in the Equinox

The 2022 Equinox comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist, a bundle of driver-assist features that boost your awareness and response times on the road. Some of the standard and available safety features in the Equinox include:

Standard Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking

Using external sensors, this feature sends an alert if it detects a potential front-end collision with a vehicle you’re following, so you can act quickly.

Standard Front Pedestrian Braking

Navigating intersections with crosswalks just got a lot easier. This safety feature can detect the presence of a pedestrian directly ahead, sending an alert if necessary. It can also apply autonomous braking to help you avoid or mitigate a collision.

Standard Teen Driver

Your little ones get less little every day. When the time comes to pass on your safe driving habits, the standard Teen Driver feature is there to help.

Assign your young driver their own key fob, and whenever that key fob is used to drive the car, your customizable vehicle settings go into effect. Don’t want a too-loud radio to distract from safe driving, for instance? You can limit the volume controls.

Then, your SUV will generate a report card, so you can continue to coach your new driver.
